Recently, we have seen the popularity grow of exterior black paint colour being used both residentially and commercially.
One must be careful, however, in its use.
It’s kind of like using black eye-liner make up, a well selected amount frames the eyes and enhances the look, too much is aesthetically displeasing.
In my opinion, it’s best to use it as an accent only, such as fascia boards, or on windows, railings, shutters etc.
Let’s take a look at some examples….
Now, I’m not saying I don’t like this look, it’s quite an attention grabber although it’s quite a “heavy” look.
Perhaps a dark gray stucco colour would have been a better choice than the almost black against the black windows.
It would have made the windows “pop” and offer visual interest as contrast.
Let’s look at a black used a different way, as highlights only.
Used as a highlight, the black windows, rails, and trim give this building a well appointed modern feel.
Easy on the eyes, the crisp look fits into the neighbourhood exceptionally well.
Stay tuned for my next blog post. More info on the New Black continues….
